I ordered from Artichoke this past Sunday and I was quite disappointed! I was disappointed because I've tried damn near every pizza joint in Astoria and they were all subpar and then I stumble upon this gem. An acquaintance told me to try them out awhile ago but I saw the prices and said, oh no! I wasn't going to pay those prices for something that was probably overrated by out of towners who swore it was "the best pizza in the city". Anyway, I ordered a high dollar calzone, an artichoke slice and a vodka sauce slice (yeah I had to reach that $20 minimum). GH said it would be about an hour and I was cool with that. I get a call about 45 minutes in from Artichoke apologizing for the delay. Sunday night football and the place is packed Yada yada yada. The guy asks if they can compensate for the time. I'm like sure, throw in a salad. My food arrives about 20-30 minutes later in 3 boxes. 1 large pizza box, a medium box, and a small. I'm like, yo, the order has to be wrong because I didn't order a large pizza. I opened the large box and there's a calzone the size of an infant. I opened the medium box and there's 2 large slices and the small box has a huge "complimentary" salad. I was in smorgasbord heaven. My eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas. On top of that everything was delicious. I had so much left over, I ate it for lunch and dinner the next day. I appreciate the service and them making a call to follow up. That's good customer service! The ingredients were fresh and the dough from the calzone had to be made in house. The food and portions are well worth the price! Forever a fan!

I recently wrote up a review about another pizza place in the area and praised it for it's low price yet delicious food. This place however is in a completely different league from typical pizza places. The pizza is the best I've ever had. Period. The size of the pie is insane, and is almost always cooked to perfection (sometimes fairly burnt though). The trade up however is that it's very expensive by pizza standards. Expect to pay over $30 for a pie, though I guarantee it's worth it. Also the menu is extremely limited. This place does one thing, but does it almost perfectly. Highly recommended

Have ordered from Artichoke many times in the year that I've lived in the area and it's always delicious! The artichoke slice is good warm or cold, and I very much enjoy their salad. I've also tried the margherita, vodka sicilian, and white slices and they were all delicious as well. Never a disappointing meal from Artichoke.

You can't always eat pizza, but when you can, eat Artichokes.
My fav is the creamy vodka. It's almost criminal to compare this to 99c pizza. It's a different level of food.

i ordered like a drunk idiot tonight, then called every 10min after the designated delivery time to say my order has yet to arrive... even so far as to give the wrong address as my stunted brain couldn't recall it... only for Artichoke to call back and finally say I ordered for pickup. then they ran the pizza over to me in under 10min. AMAZING PLACE.

cannot be beat if you like great sauce with real tomato flavor, tomato chunks that still remains light, crunchy dough and delicious cheese. the box salad is perfect. tons of cheese, really tons! two types, a mild provolone and ricotta. real greens, no romaine or dare i say iceberg. tons of kalamata olives, red onions, tomatoes and artichoke leaves.

Pizzaiolos, cousins and best friends, Francis Garcia and Sal Basille opened Artichoke Basille's on 14th St. In 28. Having gotten their hands into the business early working at their family's restaurant, Basille's in Staten Island, the boys and their pizza shop have made more than a name for themselves in manhattan. Since launching Artichoke Basille's, they have scored articles in The New York Times, The New York Post, and numerous other food blogs, websites and publications. Their never-ending line of devoted Artichoke Basille's fans includes the likes of Keith Richards and Momofuku's David chang. In 21, the cousins teamed up with New York nightlife impresarios Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss to expand Artichoke Basille's Pizza. Their second Artichoke location opened in September of 21 on 1th Ave at 17th Street in Chelsea featuring sit-down dining and expanded menu items. In November of the same year, the new partnership opened the third Artichoke Basille's. Similar in size to the original Artichoke location, this slice shop serves up the legendary slices in what was once the heart of American Bohemia, Greenwich Village on macdougal Street.
